Asking someone other than Allah Ta'ala for assistance

Q: I have talked to barelwis about the impermissibility of asking help from someone other than Allah Ta'ala like Auliyas. But they say that the verses revealed in the Quran about the impermissibility of asking someone other than Allah Ta'ala apply to idols only. How can I make them understand that it is for everyone except Allah?

A: Everything happens with the will of Allah Ta'ala. Allah Ta'ala has commanded us to adopt the means in fulfilling our needs. Hence people take assistance from other people in the world to accomplish their worldly requirements and needs. This will not be construed as shirk ascribing partners with Allah Ta'ala provided one understands that the actual doer is Allah Ta'ala. However, if a person believes that the one he is seeking assistance from is the doer of all things, then this is obviously impermissible and haraam.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
