Q: In Surah Hud (11) aayah 78, Nabi Loot (alaihis salaam) offererd his dughters to his people. According to the Christians, he was offering them to be raped and done whatever the people felt like with them. Is it the same in Islam? If not, then why did he offer his 2 daughters to a mob trying to passify the large group?
A: The words of the Qur'aan are "hunna at-haru" - this is more pure and closer to chastity. All that the Qur'aan speaks of is that instead of man on man, you rather do something that is chaste, pure and not condemned by Allah Ta`ala, and that is man to a woman, obviously after nikaah. To distort the Qur'aan Shareef to suit any other standard is really unfair to the Qur'aan.
The Bani Israaeel were cursed and the wrath of Allah Ta`ala descended on them for this very reason, where they distorted the word of Allah Ta`ala either in the actual words or meaning. These types of verses of the bible are a total distortion. Loot (alaihis salaam) is a nabi of Allah, who is divinely guided and protected. It is impossible for a nabi to succumb to wrong and filth. Hence, don't ever entertain this type of a thought regarding a nabi lest you lose your imaan. The experts of the new and old testament are in agreement that there are thousands of distortions in their scriptures, not just hundreds.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
