Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) referring to Nabi (sallallahi alaihi wasallam) or senior Sahaabah

Q: Can you please clear my doubts. The Quraan was sent down in Arabic to Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), so was there a chance that the verses of the Quraan were misunderstood by the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) and the Arabs during the time of revelation?

A: The way of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) was that if they did not fully understand a verse or hadeeth then they would refer it to a senior Sahaabi or to Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) himself. It was not their way to take chances in these matters.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
