Q: The ministry of hajj released an announcement that women can book to perform hajj without a mahram through the ‘women’s league’. Is this acceptable? What is the ruling on women and travel?
A: It is not permissible for a woman to travel the distance of 78 km or more without a mahram. Hence, if a woman does not have a mahram, hajj will not be fardh on her and it is not permissible for her to travel alone for hajj.
