Making dua after salaah and delaying the sunnats

Q: A person has the habit of making duaa individually after fardh salaah. He thus delays his sunan for approximately 10 minutes. What is the sharee ruling regarding this? Will this be makrooh?

A: There are two practices prevalent among our Ulama in regard to making dua after salaah. Both these practices have their origin in the hadith. Some Ulama prefer that a short dua be made after the fardh salaah, for the duration of

اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت ياذا الجلال والإكرام

or slightly longer or shorter. Thereafter the sunnats should be performed. Upon the completion of the sunnats one should engage in zikr, tasbeeh e faatimi and dua.

Other Ulama prefer that the dua, zikr and tasbeeh e faatimi should be made immediately after the fardh salaah and thereafter the sunnats should be performed.

However, after those salaahs regarding which there is no sunnats (e.g. Fajr and Asr) all agree that the dua, zikr and tasbeeh e faatimi should be made immediately after the fardh salaah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
