Coming out of the fold of Islam by showing respect to an idol and Hinduism

Q: If the London mayor puts a decoration around an idol to show respect to Hindus, does this act amount to doing shirk and kufr and would he have left the fold of Islam for this?

A: Through showing respect to the idol and respect to Hinduism, he will come out of the fold of Islam. He should renew his Imaan and make sincere taubah for what he has done.
