Q: Our area masjid is closed due to renovation. We now perform Salah at two temporary venues. We have one azan that is given from the masjid that is closed, and no azan from the temporary musallahs.
Is this correct? What is the status of azan?
A: The azaan given from the musjid will suffice for the entire locality. However, the hadith teaches that the azaan should be given at the place where the salaah is performed with Jamaat as the azaan is a means of calling people for salaah.
Therefore, if the place where the salaah is performed is at a distance from the musjid, then azaan should also be given in the place where the salaah is performed.
In future, whenever renovations take place in the musjid, then the musjid committee should reserve a section of the musjid for salaah to be performed, while the other section is being renovated.
When the renovated section is complete, then the jamaat can be moved to that section while the remainder section gets renovated.
The reason for doing this is so that the salaah in the musjid is not entirely terminated during the period of renovation.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
