Q: My brother was the breadwinner of our home and he passed away. As I am the eldest child, I have to go out and earn money for our family, even though I am a woman. I have taken a job where I am forced to interact with males. What should I do?
A: The correct place for a woman to be is within the confines of her home. Without a valid need, she should not leave her home. This is safer for her Deen as well as her self-respect and chastity. The corporate environment where women are seen rubbing shoulders with strange men and interacting freely with them is a totally anti-Islamic environment. You should make an effort to generate an income from within the home to support the family. If you cannot do so for some reason, despite trying, you will be excused. However, you should ensure that you do not mix with males or talk to them casually. You should continue to make istighfaar and observe all the laws of hijaab while out of the home.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
