Keeping the name "suwaidah"

Q: I am finding a good name for my baby girl due soon. I am thinking of Suwaidah. I know there is a Sahabah by the name of Suwaid bin Samit, and from the internet I saw that there is a narrator of hadith named Suwaidah. But I couldn't find the meaning of the name. I was told it could have come from the root word Saada, meaning 'Azim/Karim, from which the word Sayyid comes. Is this correct?

The word "Tahreem"

Q: What does tahreem mean? Is this right name for a girl? My sister has this name and parents are deciding to change her name as it means haram from surah al-tahreem. But when I searchd this meaning on internet I found it HURMAT WALI. So please clarify the exact meaning of this name so that we can take a proper decision.

Surnames

Q: I am a revert to islam and would like to know which verse of the Holy Quran or Hadith says that a revert should retain his surname (my surname is not the name of an idol or such)? And does my wife take my surname or keep her fathers surname?

The names Zaydaan and Meezaan

Q: My wife and I are expecting a baby boy Insha Allah. There are two names that we would like to keep:

  1. Zaydaan
  2. Meezaan (word from surah Ar Rahmaan)

Are these names permissable for a baby boy and if so please can let us know what the meaning is as well as the correct english spelling?
