Q: Can you fast days for ashura or is the virtue only 2 days? 

If you fast all 3 days for ashura will all three days be rewarded as the fast of ashura?

Q: Is it permissible to keep fast on the 3 days of Aashura (8th/9th/10th of Muharam)?

Q: I have read that it is makrooh tanzihi for one to fast on only the 10th of Muharram (without also fasting on the 9th or 11th). My questions are:

1. What is the ruling if one could only fast on the 10th due to some valid reason?

2. Should he rather not fast on the 10th?

3. What constitutes a valid reason?

4. What's the meaning and ruling of makrooh tanzihi?

Q: Regarding the fasts of Aashura, I came across an article that states: In fact Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states: Fasting on the ninth, tenth and eleventh of Muharram is on the highest level of preference. (Fathul Bari, under Hadith: 2000) Is this correct? Can it be practised?

Q: Can one quote and practise on the Hadith which explains that fasting for each day in the month of Muharram equals fasting for an entire month?

Q: Some people say that it is not makrooh to fast only on Ashura, the tenth of Muharram, because it is no longer the practice of the jews in today's times. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) mentioned in the Hadith that we should not only fast on the tenth as we will be resembling the jews. Since the jews no longer fast on the tenth of Muharram, it will no longer be makrooh for Muslims to only fast on the tenth. Furthermore, they cite the following quotation of Badaai'-us-Sanaai' in support of this claim. Is this view correct? If not, then what is the correct explanation of the following quotation?

وكره بعضهم صوم يوم عاشوراء وحده لمكان التشبه باليهود، ولم يكرهه عامتهم

Q: I was recently informed by a friend that there is no need to fast on the 9th or 11th of Muharram together with the 10th in this era, as the element of tashabbuh (emulation) of the Jews is no longer found. Is this correct?

Q: Can we fast on the 9th, 10th and 11th of Muharram?

Q: Please guide us as to when should we fast for Aashura?

Q: I would like to know if it is a Sunaah to keep ten fast for the first ten days of Muharram?
