equality between wives

Distributing one's time equally between one's wives

Q: Can you please let me know what is the ruling regarding spending time with each wife. My sister's husband has recently got married to another woman after being in a relationship for many years. He states that having more than wife is a Sunnah but he is totally disregarding the feelings of his first wife and spends most of his time with his new wife. Can you please clarify how he should spend time with each wife. Also I find it hard to accept his reasoning that it is Sunnah. I feel that the word Sunnah is just covering up his wrong doings. Wrong is wrong. Please do not misunderstand me I understand fully the purpose of more than one wife and it being Sunnah. I have no objection to that at all. Loooking forward to your reply.

Marital problems

Q: I am a 29 years old married male, married against my will (parents pressure) since last 3 years and suffering from depression since last 3 years because of it. I have a 9 months old daughter but my sexual satisfaction is not there. My wife really loves me but I unable love her back (never liked her face). I am emotionally destroyed because I really feel empty inside. I am planning to do a second marriage and for this purpose I ask a girl at my office whom I really like (she likes me too) but she is saying that I should leave my wife behind or make an agreement with her that I will spend only one day a week and the rest 6 with my second (probable) wife. I can't do this because I have heard that there is extreme punishment for inequality between wives and I am not that stone hearted to do so either, and now that girl has stopped talking with me and I am in intense depression. I can't work at my office properly, finding it hard to follow Deen because my mind is seriously disturbed since last 3 years. I wish I could die right now because its really seems impossible for me to live like this and still following Deen completely. Please make a dua for me and give me a solution.

Second wife forgoing her rights to the first wife

Q: I am a married muslim man. Some days back I met a Muslim woman who is willing to marry me as my second wife. I just said no as we need to deal justly with both wives. Now my question is the woman who needs to marry me says that she does not need equal treatment, she says she will forgo her rights to the first wife. She told me to just make a fixed amount I can spend on her monthly and the days I can be with her. Now I want to know if the girl is ready to forgo her rights is that ok to marry her?

Marital problems

Q: Can a man have two wives if he is unable to support them? My husband has another wife. Both he and the other wife are unemployed and not earning any income. I am the only one working. We all live in one house. Being the only one working does not affect me as much as the fact that I have no alone time with my husband. I do not get to have any intimate time with my husband. He only shares that part with her because they are alone and we are not. The only alone time we have is when he says goodbye to me at the gate in the mornings. Please advise what to do. I make dua everyday that he finds a good job so that we can have separate homes. This is such a difficult situation and is taking its toll on me. I desperately want a child but with no alone time I obviously cannot even think about getting pregnant. A friend suggested that I get my own place and they must see to themselves but how do I do that to another person who I know does not have an income? Please help me figure this out?

Equality between wives

Q: I already have a wife and I did a second nikaah about two months ago. She is in another country and her visa is under process. Only nikaah has been done and we are yet to start living together. (1) According to shariah, am I supposed to maintain equality in financial terms between the two wives even though the second one is yet to live with me? (2) If I purchase something for my first wife, am I supposed to purchase it for the other one also while she is not living with me? (3) If I give some cash to my first wife, am I supposed to give exactly the same amount to the second one also despite the fact that she is not living with me?
