Q: What is ruling of celebrating the prophet's birthday. There is a authentic hadith that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was born in rabiyul awal 12. Ibnu taymmiyya mention mawlid in nabi.
A: Ibnu Taymiyyah (rahmatullahi alaih) as well as all the auliyaa, Hadhrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jeelaani, all the muhadditheen and fuqahaa never thought of celebrating the moulid. Secondly it seems to be showing some level of disregard to Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that we dedicate just one day in the year for him. Is this what he deserves for all his sacrifices and contributions for his beloved ummat. The actual moulid supposed to be done everyday by relating his sunnat, learning and teaching his ways and talking of his ways and greatness. Our akaabir state that the least durood shareef a person should be reading in a day is 300. Those who engage in moulid you will hardly find anyone of them who commits himself to these aspects. Hence, this then just becomes a ritual and a custom and innovation.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
