Reciting Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam instead of the durood in Salaah

Q: If we are short in time when praying salat, instead of reading the whole "Allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa.." in Durood, can we suffice with just "Salla allahu alayhi wa sallam", will the sunna be fulfilled by this? Also, is it ok to just mention the Prophet as a pronoun or should he be mentioned by name i.e. "Salla allahu ala Muhammedin wa sallam"?

A: 

1. The Sunnah will be fulfilled.
2. Instead of saying "the prophet said", you should say Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) has said. 

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

ويتشهد وهو واجب عندنا وصلى على النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام وهو ليس بفريضة عندنا خلافا للشافعي رحمه الله فيهما لقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا قلت هذا أو فعلت فقد تمت صلاتك إن شئت أن تقوم فقم وإن شئت أن تقعد فاقعد والصلاة على النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام خارج الصلاة واجبة إما مرة واحدة كما قاله الكرخي أو كلما ذكر النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام كما اختاره الطحاوي فكفينا مؤنة الأمر والفرض المروي في التشهد هو التقدير (الهداية 1/112)
