Reason for sending salutations on Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)

Q: We know that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was sent as a mercy for everyone from a verse in the Quran in Surah al Anbiya, verse 107. If he is mercy then why do we need to send salutations and mercy upon him?

A: Everything happens by the command of Allah Ta`ala. Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is an embodiment of mercy by the command of Allah Ta`ala. Similarly, it is a command of Allah that we send salawaat (salutations) on him. Our salutations are more or less a token of acknowledgment and showing some level of gratitude for his favours upon mankind.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
