Slaughtering a goat and giving the meat to the poor or giving the value of the goat to the poor in sadaqah

Q: My mother suggested to slaughter a goat every year as sadaqah and we do so. Can we give the price of that goat to some needy people as sadaqah? Remember that she already mentioned goat.

A: Slaughtering a goat and giving the meat to the poor in sadaqah, or giving the value of the goat to the poor in sadaqah, both are permissible.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
