Q: There are some specific prescribed Zikr by the Ulema and Mashaykh which are called "Wazifa". These are certain Azkaar of reading a Dua, or Ayah of Quran or the names of Allah for a specific number of times in order to achieve something.
My question is that, do we have evidences from the Quran, Sunnah and the practice of the Salaf on practicing these prescribed Azkaar? Can you please list them in detail with references.
A: Many of the azkaar that are prescribed are from the hadeeth, like durood shareef, istighfaar, the third kalimah, the prescribed dua that are in Al-Hizbul A`zam etc. And the other wazaaif are an ilaaj and they are a curative process. And a curative process can be for a physical ailment or spiritual ailment. And you do not have to have any precedent in the hadeeth or Quraan for it as long as there is no wrong and incorrect wording in the dua.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
