Q: What is the ruling regarding a beardless man giving the azaan and iqaamah?
A: Azaan is among the sha'aair (the salient symbols) of Islam. The person who calls out the Azaan should be a pious and upright Muslim who adheres to the mubaarak sunnah and teachings of Islam in all facets of his life.
The Fuqahaa have ruled that it is makrooh for a faasiq (open sinner) to call out the Azaan and iqaamah. Hence, it is not permissible to appoint a person who is clean shaven to call out the Azaan and Iqaamah.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
