Q: As a woman, is it allowed for me to uncover my hands to eat in a public restaurant, if there are non-mahram men present in the same place but not sitting at my table?
Besides this, can I expose 1-2 fingertips only for mobility when doing shopping and other things outside?
A: Why go to such places to eat when you fear that you will be viewed by non-mahram males? Going to such places to eat which are frequented by all types of people and the laws of Hijaab are not upheld in such places is against the Islamic teachings and the Islamic culture.
It is best that a male does the shopping (e.g. your father, husband, son or brother). However, if there is no male to assist then it is permissible for you to purchase the necessary items that you require. You should ensure that you are clad properly with pardah. Your palms or fingertips can be exposed.
In many places, there are certain stores or supermarkets which provide online shopping and delivery services. If you purchase via these online stores, you will save yourself from the trouble of leaving your home for this purpose.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
