Safar

Woman traveling without a mahram

Q: I want to ask about travelling alone. My sister lives in Australia and she wants to visit us in India. She cannot come with her husband or son because of their work and school. My other sister is also coming from Saudi with her children so we can reunite as my mother is not well

My question is, is it permissible for her to travel alone as she is confused?

Will a person be regarded as a musaafir if he is studying 76km from his home town

Q: I am from Roshnee, studying in Azaadville (distance between Roshnee and Azaadville is 76 Km). My wife is from Rustenburg which is +/-100 km to Azaadville.

So we staying together here in Azaadville, but I do not intend ever settling down here because I have to basically just finish my studies.

Ps. We usually don't stay here for more than 15 days. So can the following intentions be permissible:

My niyyah: My darul watan is still Roshnee, I make niyyah for safr when I leave Roshnee intending to continue my journey more than safr distance, and stay in Azaadville for less than 15 days (by our flat).

My wife's niyyah: She keeps Rustenburg as her darul watan as she hasn't established herself anywhere else yet, not Roshnee nor Azaadville. Azaadville is just a darus safr as she will not stay for more than 15 days like myself. She reads qasr when in Roshnee.

So do I read qasr in Rustenburg? Are these intentions correct or should we change our niyyah to base ourselves in Azaadville and work accordingly or what is Mufti Saheb's opinion?

Travelling safr distance from watn-e-iqaamat

Q: I decided to travel to Dammam for 17 days. In between I went to some other town for 3 days which is approximately 200kms from Dammam.

My question is, after I came back to Dammam, do I need to pray qasar or full namaz? Initially it was more than 15 days stay so I was praying full namaz but after moving out of town and coming back and less than 15 days of stay left, so will it be qasr or not?

Musaafir mistakenly performing four rakaats instead of two

Q:

1. A musaafir read four rakaats salaah unknowningly and after a couple of days he corrected it to two rakaats. Will his salaah be valid?

2. A musaafir read two rakaats but someone told him to read 4 rakaats and due to confusion, he reads four rakaats. Does the first salaah count and will the second salaah which was read as four rakats be regarded as nafl?

Musaafir unsure whether he will stay for more than 14 days in one place

Q: If am not sure whether till 7th Zil Haj, it will be 14 or 15 days in Makkah before we leave for Mina. Can we do any of the below:

1. Can we pray qasr salah in Makkah, Mina, etc. by making an intention of 14 days only, even if it increases to a day (making it to 15) depending on the moon sighting?

2. We pray full salah making intention of 15 days, but Zul Qadah month stops on 29th making it to only 14 days depending on moon sighting?

Which is a good method to follow here?

Musaafir unsure if he will stay for more than 14 days in one place

Q: I have performed Hajj last year with my family and I have few questions. I forgot to check with any mufti before leaving but as per my calculation we stayed in Makkah before leaving for Mina (5th aug 00:00 to 19th aug 03:00) and I thought it was 14 days. As per my calculation we prayed Qasr salah.

Later I got confused and thought whether we should have prayed full as it could have been 15 days. Also, it depended on the moon sighting. After Hajj, I clarified with some mufti and he said it was okay and don't put your mind in stray thoughts.

I am confused since then and also repented to Allah to forgive if I did wrong. I am worried that I took my family and didn't guide them properly. Is Hajj affected with this or what we did was correct?

Musaafir changing his intention

Q: My question is regarding a musaafir:

A person left Verulam with the intention of going to Pietermaritzburg (this is safr distance). On his way, he stops in Chatsworth and changes his mind and says that he is going back home so he reads 4 rakaats asr in Chatsworth as he was told that he is no more a musaafir. Is this correct? When does he become a muqeem and does he have to repeat his asr salaah?
