Mahr

Giving gold as mahr

Q: As per the need of the time of those days, the devaluation of money is going so fast and islaam made the nisaab of zakat in gold and silver. According to this if we make the transactions of mahr in Nikaah in gold, will it be valid shariah or not. In the case of divorce I find a man divorced his wife after 10 year's of the nikah, that time the Mehar was Rs. 1125/= that's also not paid at the time of nikah. With the papers of divorce, he sent the same amount to her after 10 years. So if they made the transaction in gold, the divorced woman would have something to support her for the future.

Giving the wife her full mahr after divorce

Q: One of my friends got married to a guy. Only nikaah was performed but no rukhsati. It was an arranged matter. The two people were in love and decided to consummate the marriage. But after few months of nikah their were some issues between the families of the guy and the girl, all those issues led to the divorce of the couple. Now when the things were exchanged between the families, half of the mahar was also returned as the family elders didn't know that the couple had consummated the marriage. My friend has not forgiven any mehar to her ex husband. In that case what does the Quran and hadith say? Kindly enlighten me about the matter. Does the guy owe her that rest half of mehar that was returned at the time of divorce?

Bride's family demanding a huge mahr

Q: I have one question regarding Mahr. The family of the bride wants to put 3 million BDT in the nikah contract which is totally unpractical and unreasonable. They are saying I don't have to pay any penny but they won't allow anything less in the contract. They might be asking this as a security in case a divorce takes place! How funny. Anyway, I would like to know the ruling on this. The bride has agreed to a much lesser amount which I can afford to pay. So if I sign the paper just to satisfy their parents and then I pay to the bride according to her wish will I be debt free? Will my marriage be valid?

Dowry

Q: Is demanding dowry haraam, makrooh or permissible in Islam? Is giving dowry to a daughter's husband also in the same category?
