Hadith

Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) drinking from the same side of the utensil as Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu anha)

Q: 1. The Imaam gave a bayaan on how to increase the love in the home... He said that Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) used to drink from one side of the cup and Hazrat Ayesha (radhiyallahu anha) drank from the same side... I corrected him privately by saying to him the hadith records it the other way around... Hazrat Ayesha (radhiyallahu anha) sipped first and Nabi (sallallahu alahih wasallam) drank from the side where she had sipped from... He argues that sometimes Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) drank first and ate first. Is the argument valid where I say the hadith as it should not be miss quoted or am I being technical?

2. The Imaam also gave additional advice saying that by making salaam when coming in the home would make you clear of debts. Is this amal heard of?

Remaining in pious company

Q: In the light of the narration below, should I stay in such a place or should I get away from a bad place so as not to be hit by punishment. If I stay in this bad place and I give advice so that people stop their bad deeds, is that correct or should I get away from this bad place?

1. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When Allah sends down a punishment on a nation, the punishment will strike all those who are among them, and then they will be resurrected in accordance to their actions.'” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 7108 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2879 with slight variation in the wording. Also see: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 7108)

2. Sayyidah Zaynab bintu Jahsh (radiyallahu ‘anha) relates: “I said O Messenger of Allah! Will we be destroyed when there are righteous people among us? He said: ‘[Yes], If evil deeds increase.'” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3346, 3598, 7059, 7135 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2880)

‘Evil deeds’ has been explained as zina, open sinning and immorality. This Hadith explains that when evil becomes widespread, then the pious will also be affected when the punishment of Allah strikes. However, each person will then be raised in the Hereafter in accordance to his intention [and level of obedience]. (Refer: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 7135)

Fasting on the last and first day of the hijri year

Q: Please clarify if there is Hadith to fast on the last and first day of the hijri year. A pious person mentioned to me that in the book of Shaikh Abdul Qader Jilani (rahmatullah alayh), Ghunyat ul Talibeen, the Hadith is mentioned.

He sent me the picture of the Arabic book page with the Hadith, it is on page 90. I think it is not possible to make an attachment here.

Hadith on gossiping

Q: In the below hadeeth, kindly elaborate the point of gossiping as it is quite a common act these days to kill time among the young ones and women.

Sayyiduna Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (radhiyallahu 'anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam) said: 'Indeed Allah has forbidden for you:
1. Disobedience of mothers,
2. Refusing to pay what is due, but claiming what isn't due, and
3. Burying your daughters alive,

and He dislikes for you:
1. Gossiping
2. Asking too much, and
3. Wastage of wealth.
