Respect for Ulama

Adab and respect

Q: I want to ask regarding the adab of not calling a person's elders using the word 'you' , but rather repeating their title e.g. moulana

1) What are the origins of this and which kitaabs is this mentioned in?

2) In Arabic when addressing Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in madinah munawwarah, the word ka / you is used. Also when making dua to Allah Ta'ala both in English and Arabic, does this not then become much more disrespectful than using the same word you for some elder?

Respect for the Ustaad

Q:

1. A student has strong talluq with an ustaadh which does not show during lessons. If out of class other students feel as if this talluq is a problem what should be done?

2. When an Ustaadh is talking about something that is on a more informal note, how should a student maintain utmost adab?

3. When a student realises that an Ustadh has made a mistake whilst teaching should he do anything?

Respect for Ulama

Q: I have read somewhere that it is a right that (Muslim) scholars must be respected. Therefore, is it haram for a layman to argue or talk back to a scholar? Not in a rude way, but in a kind of casual manner, like he would talk to friends etc.

Respecting a pious person

Q:

1. We have a Shaikh in our area who, when he enters or leaves the Masjid, the Mureeds stand up for him presumably out of respect. Those that are not mureeds feel uncomfortable because they feel obliged to also stand up when Hadhrat walks in. Is this standing up when Hadhrat comes in and, in particular, when he leaves, substantiated in Shariah?

2. A mureed of this Shaykh mentioned that Hadhrat knows what we are talking about because he is divinely informed. Is this a valid statement?

3. A lay person accidentally sat in Hadhrat's chair. He was told to get off it by a mureed because it is Hadhrat's chair. Was it correct of the mureed to
do this?
