Q: A client of mine would like to find out if they could possibly rent out Computers e.g If the computer costs R1000.00 they will be renting it out at R100.00 per month over 36 months. Is this permissible in Islam?

Working for a company that rents out ticketing software

Q: I am working as a business development executive for a company which develops software for theatres, food court and parking. However, the software has no concern with movie, it is being used for ticketing purposes. Moreover, my company supplys computers to theatres on rental basis for ticketing purposes. Kindly, guide me whether my job is valid as per our shariat.

Tenant not wishing to pay rent

Q: We own a house and have tenants staying there! I gave them notice to move as I wanted to move into the house. Things didn't go as planned for me and I ended up not moving. I told the tenants that they don't have to move anymore! They continued to stay. Now they don't want to pay me rent fir the month saying they didn't get deposit back from removal company and the husband had to take unpaid leave 3 days for the move. Is this allowed. Also they didn't inform me about there plans only when I asked they said they not paying!

Incentive for paying rent early

Q: My apartment complex offers an incentive to pay rent one week earlier than the due date. The apartment complex holds a raffle with the names of all the people who pay their rent early and the winner of the raffle gets $400 in cash. Last month, I paid my rent early and my name was drawn in the raffle, so they gave me $400. Is this money halaal for me to use?

Tenant intending to open up a liquor store

Q: I have recently built a shopping centre and I have acquired a chain store as my tenant on the same premises. I have two other smaller stores, one being occupied and the other vacant. The tenant has requested that we lease out the other store to them to open up their own liquor store. Is it  permissible to have them as my tenant and to collect the rent. Is this allowed in Islam?

Refunding excess after repairs back to the tenant

Q: A landlord makes an estimate of costs for effecting repairs to damages caused by a tenant on his property. Upon receipt of the claim from the landlord, the tenant makes payment without question. Subsequently, the landlord effects repairs to all the damage but the total cost turns out to be
much less that what the landlord had billed the tenant. Is the landlord obliged to refund the tenant the excess recovered?
