Qiblah

Performing salaah a few degrees away from the qiblah

Q: I would like to confirm if the following is correct:

1. Someone told me that when reading salaah, when facing the qibla, if you are a few degrees wrong then it is maaf.

2. If someone is reading salaah facing the wrong direction then you must turn them towards the right direction or tell them and they can turn to the right direction without breaking their salaah and their salaah will be accepted.

Checking for qibla with an app

Q: On a trip out of town that necessitated qasar salaah, my sister checked the qibla direction using 2/3 apps. 2 gave a certain direction and the 3rd gave a different direction. We thus read our salaah according to the qibla direction from the two that were the same. However on the day we were leaving, I was on the balcony watching the sunrise and realised the sun was rising on the exact opposite direction of our qibla direction. In my understanding the qibla direction is north east and the sun rises in the east which meant our qibla was incorrect. Is this right? This doubt is lingering on my mind. Do I have to repeat my salaah?

Finding the qiblah on a ship

Q: I am working on a ship for 6 months at a time. Sometimes we go from America to China and I cannot find the qibla. On sea, our normal application does not work properly so it is difficult to find the qibla. I am performing salaah without knowing qibla direction. Is it permissible?

Finding out the qiblah direction

Q: Me and my father were in a new town at the time of salaah. My father used some kind of compass and found the Qiblah direction. The next day we found the Qiblah to be different, as my father made some kind of mistake or the compass didn’t work properly, maybe 90 degrees in different direction was what we originally faced. Must the salaah read in the wrong direction be repeated?
