Method of placing the planks in the grave

Q: Is there any order in placing the planks in the grave e.g. starting from head side for females and starting from the feet side for males?

A: Just as one will commence pouring sand from the head side when closing the grave, similarly planks should be placed from the head side. This is for both men and women.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

( ويسوي اللبن عليه والقصب لا الآجر ) المطبوخ والخشب لو حوله أما فوقه فلا يكره ابن ملك فائدة عند لبنات لحد النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام تسع ... ويستحب حثيه من قبل رأسه ثلاثا (الدر المختار 2/236)

قال الشامي : قوله ( ويسوي اللبن عليه ) أي على اللحد بأن يسد من جهة القبر ويقام اللبن فيه حلية عن شرح المجمع ... قوله ( ويستحب حثيه ) أي بيديه جميعا جوهرة قال في المغرب حثيث التراب حثيا وحثوته حثوا إذا قبضته ورميته اه ومثله في القاموس فهو واوي ويائي فافهم قوله ( من قبل رأسه ثلاثا ) لما في ابن ماجه عن أبي هريرة أن رسول الله صلى على جنازة ثم أتى القبر فحثا عليه من قبل رأسه ثلاثا شرح المنية (رد المحتار 2/236)
