Missing Jumuah Salaah

Q: If a male misses 3 jumuahs through work purposes but he had clarified it with his boss but had no one else to put in his place, what should he do concerning reading the shahaadat? The boss has promised that he will be getting a replacement.

A: As a believer, one should be grateful for the favour of Islam. The way a servant will express gratitude for the favour of Islam is by him fulfilling every command of Shari'ah in the manner in which he has been commanded by Allah Ta'ala and explained to us by Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam).

Jumuah Salaah is among the salient features and symbols of Islam. The one who omits the Jumuah Salaah without any valid reason has committed a major sin in the sight of Allah Ta'ala.

If one misses the Jumuah Salaah without regarding it to be important, then one has shown disregard and disrespect for this great symbol of Islam. In this case, one will come out of the fold of Islam.

If one misses the Jumuah Salaah but regards this to be a sin, then though one will not come out of Islam , one has committed a major sin.

The Hadith has sounded a severe warning for those who miss Jumuah Salaah. In one Hadith, it is mentioned that the person who misses three Jumuahs out of negligence, then a seal is placed on his heart. (Sunan Abi Dawood #1052)

Therefore, the person should sincerely repent to Allah Ta'ala and make a firm resolve that he will never repeat this major sin in the future.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
