Q: What is greed in Islam as the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said wealth without greed is a blessing and wealth with greed is not a blessing. So is earning more considered greed?
I read somewhere that Ameerul Mumineen said that be moderate in earning. I don't know if it's authentic or not. If yes, should we earn moderate and not earn more?
A: The Hadith refers to not asking people for their wealth and nor desiring in your heart that they give you their wealth. If you receive something from people without asking them nor desiring in your heart, then such wealth received will be a blessing for you.
On the contrary, if you receive something from people through asking them or desiring their wealth, then such wealth received will be regarded as ill-gotten wealth and such wealth will have no barakah in it.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
