Reciting durood and making istighfaar and taubah

Q: I've read in an authentic book that durood can be a means for our ibadah being accepted. Does this mean that durood purifies the good deeds a person has done like istigfar? For example a person does deeds with inadequate sincerity and then does durood.

A: Durood is for a different reason and istighfaar is for a different reason.

Istighfaar is for showing remorse and asking Allah Ta`ala's forgiveness. Durood is mainly a token of appreciation for the favours of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), and both are compulsory and important. Both have significant virtues as well.

For a person who has committed a wrong it is more important that he makes sincere istighfaar and taubah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
