Going on holiday

Q: We come from a middle-class family, and through Allah’s mercy we are able to travel locally and internationally after saving up. My dad does not want to travel next year because he is concerned about what people might say and fears the evil eye. We do not live extravagantly, nor do we post anything online. I’m unsure how to respond to this or whether this is a valid reason for choosing not to do something generally?

A: If you are referring to traveling for holidays, then in this time where fitnah is abundantly prevalent everywhere, our Ulama discourage people from going for holiday trips and advise that one remain at home with his family, safe from fitnah.

Apart from this, one should understand that this holiday culture is not part of the Islamic culture, but is part of the kuffaar culture and ways. Therefore, it is better for you all to listen to your father and not go for holiday trips.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
