Q:

  1. Photography has been prohibited in Shariah.  This being so, how could one even fulfill his Haj/Umrah, as photograph is a mandatory requirement for passport/visa/ID card during the pilgrimage.
  2. Today, video telecasts are being used in Da'wah activities all over the globe.
  3. Please list what are the permitted forms of photography/videography allowed in Shariah, with regard to today's world we live in.
  4. Should we not resort to Ijma'a and Qiyaas for arriving at a solution to today's problems our Ummah faces, if we do not find solutions in Al Qur'an and Al Hadith?

Cartoons and films portraying Ambiya (Alayhimus Salaam) and Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum)

Q: What is the Islamic ruling regarding cartoons or films which portray stories of the Ambiyaa (alaihimus salaam) or the Sahaabah (radiyallahu anhum)? In today’s times, these types of films are available in the market and are widespread on the internet and people regard them to be educational.

Photographs for firearm licence

Q: A condition for applying for a firearm licence in South Africa is that one must submit 2 photographs wherein one may not be using any headgear ie. Hat, scarf, etc. My question is, due to this being a pre-condition for the firearm application, will it be permissible at all for a Muslim female to apply for a licence to own a firearm?

Security Cameras

Q: Is it permmissible just for security reasons to have a security camera screen in or outside of the musjid showing live people (the faces and the eyes of the people can not be seen so clearly on the screen) coming and going?
