How much mahr is a woman entitled to?

Q: Before I married, no one told me about how mahr works. They told me that I must take whatever he gives or I cannot marry him. Is it right or what?

A: A woman is entitled to a mahr mithl. Mahr mithl is the traditional mahr that is in vogue in her family.
