Qadha for missed salaahs

Q: Before I used to pray and then I stopped praying. Now I started again and I was wondering what can I do for the missed prayers?

If I repent, pray the sunnah and ask for forgiveness will I be forgiven and enter Jannah?

A: Salaah is the most important pillar of Islam. It is reported in the Hadith that the first thing which a person will be questioned on the day of Qiyaamah will be in regard to his salaah. Severe grave warnings have been sounded in the Quraan Majeed and Mubaarak Ahaadith for the one who forgoes his salaah.

Foregoing one's salaah is a major sin. You should sincerely repent to Allah Ta'ala for committing this major sin and make a firm resolve that you will not repeat this in the future. You should also perform qadha of all the fardh salaah and witr salaah which you missed. You do not have to perform qadha of the sunnah salaah which you missed.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
