Child maintenance of a newborn after husband divorces his wife

Q: What is the ruling regarding looking after a child after a husband divorces his wife while she was breastfeeding the child in Hanafi fiqh?

It is pertinent to mention here that the couple had intercourse several times during the last months after the birth of a newborn and that the menstrual cycle had not yet started.

A: She has the right to continue breastfeeding the child and the husband should take care of the expenses of the child and the mother for the duration of the breastfeeding. The child will still remain the responsibility of the father after the breastfeeding period.
