Decorating a grave

Q: What is the ruling in Islam regarding simple (lifeless) decorations on the grave?

A: It is not permissible to decorate the grave with any type of decorations. Decorating the graves is the way of the kuffaar, not the way of Muslims. The grave of a deceased is supposed to remind the living of their end when their bodies will turn to dust and they will be no more. Decorating the grave, apart from it going against the sunnah, opposes this purpose.
