Unmarried girl seeking permission from her parents before leaving the home

Q: I am a 22-year-old girl (unmarried). Is it necessary to ask for parents' permission if a relative invites me to their house for dinner or is it ok to just to inform them and go?

A: Islam teaches that a girl should consult with her parents before deciding on any important matter. Similarly, the Islamic teaching is that a girl should ask permission from her parents before leaving the home to go anywhere to fulfil a valid need. At the time when leaving the home, she should ensure that she does not leave the home alone, but is accompanied by her mahram.
