How should one's earnings be divided?

Q: According to shariah, how should one's earnings/profits be divided? What fraction should be spent on ones family, charity, business, etc.?
A: It is good to see the living standards that people are used to and comfortable with. Don't compromise on the standards so that there is comfort within the house. In this day, it is advisable for most people to keep something as a security for unforseen circumstances so that you and your family feel secure. After seeing to your needs and the needs of your dependents whoever they may be, such as parents and close family, and after keeping something as a security, if there is enough then you may spend as much as you want.
