Groom being the wakeel of the bride

Q: Can a groom himself serve as a wakeel for the bride in a nikaah ceremony?

A: Yes, if the girl gives permission to the boy to get her married to himself, then he will be her wakeel, and if the nikaah is performed in the presence of two baaligh, Muslim, male witnesses, the nikaah will be valid. However, this will be in a case where the girl does not have any family who are Muslim.

If the girl has Muslim parents and Muslim family members, then the correct thing is that she should appoint her guardian (e.g. father) or any of her siblings or uncles to act as a wakeel on her behalf in performing her nikaah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
