Grandfather doing the aqeeqah

Q: Can aqeeqah be performed by the grandfather? He pays for it even though the parents can afford it, but he wishes to do it himself.

A: Yes, it is permissible for the father of the child to allow the grandfather to do the aqeeqah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
