Q: Does pelting have to be done according to the prescribed sequence? What should one do if he had carried out the pelting against the prescribed sequence of pelting the Jamaraat?
A: Yes, pelting should be carried out according to the prescribed sequence.
If one commenced with the last and ended with the first, then since one had not followed the prescribed sequence, it will be sunnah for him to repeat the pelting of the second and third Jamaraat so that he pelts all the three Jamaraat according to the sunnah sequence.
However, if one had left out the first Jamarah and began with the second, and thereafter the third, then he should pelt the first Jamarah and it will be better (thought not compulsory) for him to repeat the pelting of the second two Jamarahs within the time of pelting so that his pelting of the three Jamaraat takes place according to the sunnah sequence.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

وما ذكرنا من الترتيب في الجمار الثلاث سنة عند الأكثر هو المختار وقيل شرط كما قاله الثلاثة فلو بدأ بجمرة العقبة ثم الوسطى ثم بالأولى ثم تذكر ذلك في يومه فإنه يعيد الوسطى والعقبة سنة أو حتما وكذا لو ترك الأولى ورمى الأخيرين فإنه يرمي الأولى ويستقبل الباقية (غنية الناسك صـ 185)ثم يرجع إلى رحله (تحفة الفقهاء 1/409)
