Q: Despite having one wife at home, is taking a second wife Sunnah or against Sunnah? Does Islam encourage this or discourage it?
A: For the person who can afford it and is able to distribute his time equally and provide for both the homes equally and show the same type of understanding and affection to both then for him it is permissible. And for the person who is not clear whether he will be able to maintain this equality and justice then not only is it not sunnat, it is impermissible.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
