Q: My children's awards day will be held in a church. Will it be permissible to attend?
A: This is not permissible. The Fuqaha mention that it is not permissible for a believer to enter the places of worship of the kuffaar (e.g. church, synagogue, temple, etc.). These places are inhabited by shayaateen and jinnaat. Symbols of kufr and shirk, statues and pictures of animate objects, and other evil influences are also found in such places. Hence, it is not permissible for a believer to enter such places.
Apart from this, if there are prayers held and a believer is present, then he can lose his imaan by being part of a kufr and shirk prayer. Therefore, it is not permissible to attend the awards day if it is held in the church.
