Taking someone else's shoes if one cannot find his own

Q: If I go to the musjid and someone mistakenly took my shoe and lefts their shoe, Can I take that person's shoe?

A: It is not permissible for you to take his shoes as you do not know with certainty whether the person who left this shoe is the one who had taken your shoes.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
