Showing priority to actions of greater importance in Deen

Q: The boys in madrasah were discussing, is it correct to leave out doing a sunnah because you are doing something which will help the deen? Example, like leaving out going to the graveyard for burial because you are studying or teaching.

A: Going to the graveyard for the burial is fard-e-kifaayah. Studying deen is fard-e-ayn upon every baaligh, sane Muslim. If that amount of people are present through which the burial can take place, then the fard-e-kifaayah will be done through them and others will be absolved of this deeni obligation. Hence, those studying deen in the madrasah will not have to be present for the burial. However, if a situation arises where people are not present for the burial, then in this case, the students should fulfill this deeni obligation.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
