Two or more people sharing in a nafl qurbaani

Q: Is it permissible for two or more people to pay for one sheep or 1 share of a cow for nafl Qurbani after having done a separate waajib Qurbani? Does the ruling differ between sheep and cattle?

A: According to Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi (rahmatullahi alayh) and Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (rahmatullahi alayh), one nafl qurbaani in a goat or sheep can be carried out by few people collectively.

As far as a big animal is concerned (e.g. cow or camel) , then it is permissible for two or more people to share in the one-seventh share, on condition that each shareholder's total share in the cow is not less than one-seventh (e.g. two people have one and a half share and the remainder four shares are owned by four people).

The qurbaani of all the shareholders will be invalid if any shareholder’s share is less than one-seventh.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
