Q: My mother is 78 years old. My father passed away today.
Due to her old age and not being well, it is almost impossible for us to take her to our home today. However it is not going to be possible for her to remain the full 4 months and 10 days in her own home. Can we take her away to our home after a few days? Is there any time frame?
A: Yes. It will be better for someone to stay with her in her home until she completes her iddat. However, if this is not possible, then it will be permissible for you all to travel with her and take her to your hometown. She should complete her iddat in your home.
