Q: What's the masla about FPC rennet?
The calf gene responsible for chymosin and pepsin production is inserted into a host (fungi). As the genes multiply they produce more chymosin and pepsin. The liquid is then strained to remove the DNA and leave the rennet.
A: If the calf gene is obtained from the stomach of the calf which was not slaughtered according to the Islamic method of slaughter, then it is impure. Hence, whatever rennet will be made through it will also be impure.
