Q: My question is about Mahar. Please tell me about the forced Mahar. I heard in an Islamic channel about forced mahar a caller call mufti and he said that he did a nikah but in nikah his in-laws and girl's uncle forced him and his family to write 200,000 Pakistan Rupees in Mahar but the boy did not agree to accept that huge mahar amount from his heart. Due to some family reason's he accepted. So he Asked Mufti that now who will pay the Mahar since I am not able to pay it. The mufti replied in this scenario you were willing to marry that girl but you don't agree with Mahar from your heart and the In-law's or any person forced you to accept it and due to family reason's you accepted that Mahar, so now you are not responsible to pay the Mahar nor your family. Now the person or person's who forced you to accept that mahar will pay your Mahar to your wife. Please tell me, is that Mufti's opinion right or wrong and please also provide me a hadith as a reference with Translation in Urdu or English.
A: We suggest that he negotiates some terms with his wife. If she relaxes some of the mahr then insha-Allah it will be manageable and easy.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
