Accepting a settlement discount from the bank to clear a credit card account

Q: We have a credit card account with FNB which hasn't been paid for about 1 and a half years. Over the period that the account was not paid, interest was levied to the account. I'm not to sure of the exact amount of interest which was levied on the account, but I have requested the amount. I'm awaiting their response.

The account is currently handled by the banks attorneys and they have recently emailed us stating that the bank is willing to give us a settlement discount of 40% if the account is paid by the 29th of this month (November).

Will it be fine for us to accept the settlement discount and settle this account as we don't have the money to pay the entire balance on the account and ان شاء الله a few friends will be willing to help us pay the account if we can settle with the settlement discount amount.

Using someone's credit card and paying back with extra

Q: I live with my parents, and over the past few months, I've made some online purchases using my father's credit card (with his permission). Since there have been quite a few transactions, I’d like to repay him but it would take a bit of time to track every individual purchase.

Is it permissible if I give my father an amount that is more than the total of my purchases, ensuring I cover the minimum amount I owe him?

For example, if the purchases total $1000, I would return something like $1200 to cover any uncertainty.

Credit cards

Q: I have a question about credit card's if you could please answer it, My question is this: Are credit card's Halaal?

To elaborate on this - if a company offers me 10,000 euros to spend on a card as and when I wish and all I have to do is pay back what I have used in 30 days and no charges will be applied to my month bill, BUT if I don't pay off this amount that I have used in the past 30 days then they will add interest to my repayments, like 15% of what I have used every month till I pay it off and based on this I agree and I enter into this agreement with that company and take and use this card. My intention is to pay off my bill every month before any interest is applied so I don't pay any Riba (interest) and I do, I keep up with my repayments every time and I don't not pay any interest at any point. But I have agreed that if I do miss a payment that I will pay them the interest. Is this permissible? Is it allowed for a Muslim to enter such a contract to make a agreement to pay Riba(interest) if such and such happens, but the Muslims intention is to never be in that situation but yet still agreeing that if I do fall in that situation I will pay you with interest. A brother of mine fell on hard times and he took a credit card to get himself through this hard times and he told me that some Ulema have said that it is permissible if you need it and as long as you stay within the monthly repayments without the add of interest. My understanding is that a Muslim must live by his oath and even agreeing to do Haram(whether or not you do it) is Haraam.

Jazak'Allah Khayrr for your time and I wait to hear your reply and clarity on this matter.

Paying back the amount borrowed on the credit card

Q: We had lived in Oman for about 3 years and during our stay we took a credit card and used it at times of emergency rather seeking help from our fraternity as everyone cannot help financially especially abroad. Therefore we took it and returned the amount within 52 days which prevented any interest. However we moved to China and due to meagre amount of cash we took the credit card with us as a backup because we were going to Pakistan and then to China. The process took longer than expected. We had used the card at the airport and did some other transactions however my mother kept 400 OMR separate from the rest amount. As mentioned earlier the process took very long so although we had the money and were fully prepared to keep it separate but we could not really return in within 52 days as my father was in China and was settling down there and in Pakistan without a male the survival becomes quite daunting due to some family issues. So now here we are with the card in China and have the money and have exceeded the time limit. I inquired before and was told by you that if we pay only the principle amount and not the interest we would not be punished by Allah. So now we want to send the money back. I emailed them but got no reply. I did whatever I could to get in contact with them but could not. So my dad was telling my mother to keep the money because every bank has insurance and after the time limit exceeds they put the name of the customer in another category where they only want to recover the main amount not the interest. So he suggested that start a business with the amount of money. She has approximately 1 hundred thousand rupees which is 1 lakh and then repay the amount to the bank, the major amount not the interest from the profit she will get. My dad is a business teacher and knows all about businesses. The following are my questions:

1) Is it permissible for her to start a business with the money she has and then return the money from the profit she will get?

2) We could not repay the money within 52 days but we intend to and have the money till now and have not used it and only will pay the major amount not the interest, so will we be punished by Allah?

Credit cards

Q: My question is that I live in muscat and I am a teacher. I want to start a side business. So the bank is offering me a credit card and the offer is that if I pay the money back I use from credit card in 52 days then no interest will be charged. But I will only use it for the business so please tell me what Islam says about this? Will look forward to your reply in the lights of Islam.
