Dye and Mehndi

Hair dye

Q: I would like ask when getting ones hair professionally dyed, bleach (ammonia) is normally used to aid in transitioning from dark to light or vice verse. I have heard that ammonia forms a layer over the hair but am unsure whether this is true as Islamicaly permanent dyes are permissible. Please let me know whether getting ones hair dyed professionally is allowed particularly when it's to cover grey hair as a means of adornment for the husband.

Hair dyes

Q: There are many colour dyes available in the market. It is said that using these dyes are haraam because it contains chemicals if they are applied on beard they prevent the hair from getting wet. It is obligatory that the beard should get wet while doing wudhu else our wudhu is invalid. Please clarify? Do these latest dyes cover the hair with a layer like nail polish or they bleach the hair with colour? Even if we use these chemical dyes the hair gets wet and washed while bathing. I fail to understand how only while doing wudhu they don’t get wet and washed? This defies logic and science. Please advise.

Using dark brown hair dye

Q: A man's wife is seven years younger than him and his beard hair is turning white, whilst her hair is black. Is it permissible for him to use dark brown dye, which makes the hair look black, provided the ingredients are halaal and the dye does not coat the hair and the water reaches the roots? If this is not permissible, what other products and colours can be used?

Dyeing the hair
