Women's Issues

Period of breastfeeding

Q: A hadith states لا رضاغ بعد الفصال

Hidaya mentions that the growth from the milk stops after the child's nutrition is changed. If a child was weaned at 8 months due to a 2nd pregnancy, then the mother gave birth and is feeding the 2nd child, can she feed the first child expressed milk?

The child is already weaned, drinking goats milk in abundance. Mothers milk will definitely be more nutritious, but does the hadith mean that it will be prohibited to feed the child who was previously weaned even though it is less than 2 years old ?

Spotting towards the end of haidh

Q: During haidh, I have an issue with spotting towards the end. I have no fixed habit. Sometimes 8, 9 or 10 days.

1. During spotting, how often do I need to check if I am clean? At each Salaah time, or after 24 hours? Sometimes I spot, and then spot again only on the next day.

2. After I make Ghusl, say day 8 or 9, I spot again on day 14. How many days are considered as haidh? Do I fall back onto the previous month's habit?

Iddat after a forced marriage

Q: At age of 12, a girl's nikah was performed with her relative against her will as she was not wise. She did not accept him as her husbend. After 4 years, her mother sent her to her husband's house but at first night they had a conflict. She told her husband not to touch her. After 2 days she came back to her parents and lived there for 5 months. Then she got a divorce from her husband. Now the question is, does that girl have to sit for iddat before marrying another person or can she marry without sitting for iddat?

Yellow discharge after haidh

Q: I get my haidh for seven days every month but on the 8th day and sometimes on the 9th day I see a yellow discharge. I am not sure whether to consider this as haidh or not because I experience discharge during my clean days sometimes its clear and sometimes it's yellow.

Shaking hands and hugging one's mother's friend

Q: My mother has a friendship with a woman (just a normal friendship). So, sometimes, when I meet her, my mother expects me to shake hands, hug and kiss her, or at least one of the mentioned. I have actually been doing this for last several years. I also need to mention that she is not a mahram to me. In addition, she does not observe hijab in front of non-mahram males. Alhamdulillaah, since last year, I actively started learning my religion. I will be 20 years old next month (September), by miladi calendar. I need to mention that the friend of my mother is more than 35 years. Most likely, she is between 35 and 40. I heard or read somewhere that shaking hands with old women is permissible if there is no fear of fitnah. I can verify that I have no fear of desire or anything attracting when I meet her since she is and looks quite old and has a husband. Also, the same with hugging and kissing if I am not wrong. However, these are things I heard or probably read from an untrustworthy source.
